Memorial Garden – George School – Newtown, PA

E. Carson Meeder Fine Landscaping has spent the past year planning, designing and installing a memorial garden on the grounds of George School, located in historic Newtown, Pennsylvania. It’s been a delight to work with members of the Class of 1965 to bring their vision to reality.

For those of you unfamiliar with George School, this internationally renown boarding and day school was founded in 1874 and is situated on a picturesque, 240-acre campus in beautiful Bucks County. Its stately buildings are reminiscent of neighboring Princeton University. It is home to some 500 students from all over the globe. It boasts notable alumni such as James Hammerstein, Julian Bond, Stephen Sondheim and numerous statesman, entertainers, writers, artists, scientists and scholars. Author James Michener once taught here. Obviously, you can understand our excitement at being chosen to work with such historical institution.

While we still need to place benches and complete some detailing, here’s the completed landscape design for the Class of 1965 Memorial Garden.

Memorial bricks will be placed for those class members who have already passed and will continue to be updated as needed. The Class of 1965 Memorial was unveiled during a recent alumni celebration.

The serene setting and thoughtful landscape design will encourage visitors to sit, reminisce, and reflect on their fellow classmates and the years spent at George School.
